Airport land uses under scrutiny:
A lot of leases that airport has leased out to commercial developers are under scrutiny by the government. Many of these leases were supposed to get revenue for the state but the state has seen very few coppers flowing into its coffers. The airport has entered into more than a dozen lease agreements with developers since the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act was approved in 1998.
The act transferred 5,300 acres of state/federal land to the airport to dispose of the property for purposes other than residential developments etc, which are supposed to be unsuitable under the flight path.
The land was transferred to the airport by the government to be leased out for industrial projects. But now more and more of leases are going for the commercial developments and the people of state are not benefiting much from these projects it is the developers who are making all the profits. Also, some of the land is going for mixed-use developments, which are sidestepping the "unsuitable developments provision" of the act.
