New Homes To Cost More To Comply With New Energy Restrictions:
All new homes in Southern Nevada will cost more as new energy
conservation rules come into effect. The new rules will replace
the older 1992 Model Energy Code -- which was based on
the federal Energy Policy Act of 1992.
New homes will cost around 1500 dollars or more to meet with the new energy
efficiency rules. The new code is based on the International Energy
Conservation Code signed in 2003.
Building officials say that homeowners needn't worry too much about the increased
costs as the new regulations will pay for themselves in about 4 years time. The
energy costs saved due to the new regulations will be worth about $400 dollars/year.
